Latest Update: Mahindra has launched RWD variants of the Thar although only in the hard top guise. The RWD option is offered in three variants while the prices are applicable to the first 10,000 bookings of the RWD Thar.
Price: The Mahindra Thar now starts from Rs 9.99 lakh and tops at Rs 16.29 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India).
Variants: It is offered in two broad trims: AX(O) and LX.
Colours: The Thar can now be had in six colour options: Everest White (New), Blazing Bronze (New), Aquamarine, Red Rage, Napoli Black and Galaxy Grey.
Engine and Transmission: The 4WD variants of the Mahindra Thar get a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine (150PS/320Nm) and a 2.2-litre diesel engine (130PS/300Nm), both paired with a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic transmission. The RWD variants get a smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine (118PS/300Nm) instead of the bigger one which only comes with a six-speed manual transmission.
Features: Features on board the Thar include a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, halogen headlights with LED DRLs, electrically controlled AC, and steering-mounted controls. Mahindra has also included a washable interior floor as well as detachable roof panels.
Safety: On the safety front, it gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, hill descent control, traction control, rear parking sensors and a front seat belt reminder.
Rivals: The Mahindra Thar is a rival to the Force Gurkha and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. It also rivals similarly priced compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
