முட்டாளும் புத்திசாலியும் Foolish and wise
மழை! ஓயாத மழை! ஏரி நிறைந்து வழியும் அளவுக்கு மழை. அந்த ஏரி நீர் குளிர்ச்சி அடைந்து விட்டது. அந்தக் குளிரைத் தாங்க முடியாத ஒரு தவளை, மழை ஓய்ந்ததும் சற்று தூரத்திலுள்ள ஒரு கிணற்றுக்கு வந்தது. கிணற்று நீர் வெது வெதுப்பாக இருக்குமே என்பதால் கிணற்றிற்குள் குதித்தது.
அந்தக் கிணற்றில் பல காலமாக வாழ்ந்து வந்த ஒரு தவளை இந்தப் புதிய தவளையை வரவேற்றது. ‘நான் வெகுநாட்களாகப் பேச்சுத் துணைக்குக்கூட ஆளில்லாமல் தவித்துக் கொண்டிருந்தேன். உன்னைக் கண்டதும் எனக்கு மகிழ்ச்சி’ எனக் கூறிப் பொந்தில் வைத்திருந்த உணவு வகைகளைப் புதிய தவளைக்குத் தந்தது.
இரண்டு தவளைகளும் பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்தன. கிணற்றிலிருந்த மற்ற தவளைகளுக்குப் புதிய தவளை வந்தது பிடிக்கவில்லை. ‘இங்கே கிடைக்கும் உணவு நமக்கே போதவில்லை. இதில் புதிய விருந்தாளி வேறு’ எனக் கவலைப்பட்டன. புதிய விருந்தாளியை எப்படியும் துரத்திவிட முடிவு செய்தன.
இரண்டு தவளைகளும் பேசிக்கொண்டிருப்பதை அருகே சென்று வேடிக்கை பார்த்தன. அப்போது அக்கிணற்றுத் தவளை ஏரித் தவளையிடம், ‘நண்பனே! நீ இத்தனை நாளும் எங்கே தங்கியிருந்தாய்?’ எனக் கேட்டது.
‘நான் ஏரியில் தங்கி இருந்தேன்’ என்றது ஏரித் தவளை. ‘ஏரியா? அப்படியென்றால் என்ன?’ எனக் கேட்டது கிணற்றுத் தவளை.
‘இந்தக் கிணற்றைப் போன்ற பெரிய நீர் நிலை. அதில் மீன், ஆமை, முதலை ஆகியவை உண்டு’ என்றது ஏரித் தவளை.
‘இந்தக் கிணற்றைப் போன்றதில் அவ்வளவு உயிரினங்களா?’ என்று கேட்டது கிணற்றுத் தவளை.
‘இந்தக் கிணற்றைவிட மிகப்பெரியது ஏரி’ என்றது ஏரித் தவளை.
கிணற்றுத் தவளை நம்பவில்லை. ‘நண்பா நீ பொய் சொல்லுகிறாய். இந்த கிணற்றைவிட பெரிய நீர் நிலை உலகத்தில் இருக்க முடியாது’ என்றது.
ஏரித் தவளை எவ்வளவோ எடுத்துச் சொல்லியும், கிணற்றுத் தவளை நம்பவில்லை. கூட இருந்த மற்ற தவளைகளும் நம்பவில்லை.
எல்லாத் தவளைகளும் ஏரித் தவளையைப் பார்த்து ‘நீ பொய்யன், புரட்டன், உன்னை நம்பி இங்கே வைத்திருந்தால் ஆபத்து’ என்று கூறி ஏரித் தவளையைத் தாக்க முயன்றன.
அப்போது, கிணற்றிலிருந்து நீர் எடுக்க ஒரு பெண் தோண்டியை இறக்கிய போது, அதனுள் தாவிச் சென்று குதித்த ஏரித் தவளை, தோண்டித் தண்ணீருடன் மேலே சென்றது. தாவிக் குதித்து ஏரி நோக்கிச் சென்றது.
முட்டாள்களிடம் வாதாடுவதை விட அவர்களிடமிருந்து ஒதுங்கிச் செல்வதே சிறந்தது
Foolish and wise
Rain! Incessant rain! Rain enough to overflow the lake. The lake water has become cold. A frog who could not bear the cold came to a well some distance away after the rain stopped. He jumped into the well because the well water was warm.
A frog that had been living in the well for a long time welcomed this new frog. ‘I was suffering for long days without anyone to talk to. “I am happy to see you” and gave the new frog the food in the bag.
The two frogs were talking. The other frogs in the well did not like the arrival of the new frog. The food available here is not enough for us. They worried that the new guest is different. They decided to chase the new guest anyway.
The two frogs went near to the conversation and were amused. Then the fire frog said to the lake frog, ‘Friend! Where have you stayed all these days?’
‘I was staying in the lake’ said the lake frog. ‘The lake? So what?’ asked the well frog.
‘A large body of water like this well. There are fish, turtles and crocodiles in it,’ said the lake frog.
‘Are there so many creatures like this well?’ asked the well frog.
‘The lake is bigger than this well’ said the lake frog.\
The well frog didn’t believe it. ‘Dude you are lying. There cannot be a bigger water level in the world than this well.
No matter how much the lake frog says, the well frog does not believe. The other frogs who were also there didn’t believe it.
All the frogs looked at the lake frog and tried to attack the lake frog saying ‘you are a liar, brat, it is dangerous to trust you and keep you here’.
Then, when a woman lowered a digger to draw water from a well, a lake frog jumped into it and went up with the dug water. It jumped up and headed towards the lake.
It is better to walk away from fools than to argue with them.
